Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 11, 2026
CleanCut is designed to do its work on your device. We do not run user accounts and the app does not use any analytics or tracking SDKs. The free tier shows non-personalized banner ads; paid subscriptions remove them.
This policy covers the CleanCut app. This website measures its own traffic separately — see This website at the end.
What stays on your device
- Apple TV connection. CleanCut finds and connects to your Apple TV over your local network. Pairing keys are stored in the device Keychain. This communication is directly between your devices and is not sent to us.
- Microphone (Mic Sync). When you start Mic Sync, CleanCut listens briefly to align subtitle timing with your TV. Audio is analyzed on your device in real time and is never saved or uploaded.
- Your settings. Filter preferences, word-list choices, and usage counts are stored locally on your device.
- Crash reports. Crash and hang diagnostics are collected on-device through Apple's MetricKit and stay on your device.
Information sent to third-party services
To identify what's playing and fetch filter data, CleanCut may send the current title or video identifier to the following services. Each request is subject to that provider's own privacy policy:
- TMDb — to match the title and retrieve artwork/metadata.
- OpenSubtitles — to search for and download matching subtitles.
- SponsorBlock — to retrieve crowdsourced segment data.
- YouTube — to read titles, channel names, thumbnails, and captions for content playing on your devices.
We do not send these services your name, email, or device identifiers, and we do not receive any personal profile back from them.
Our proxy for subscribers
For paid subscribers, title-matching (TMDb) and subtitle (OpenSubtitles) requests are routed through our own proxy service instead of carrying API keys inside the app. To open a session, the app sends a device attestation from Apple (proof it is a genuine, unmodified copy of CleanCut) and your App Store subscription's signed receipt. That receipt carries an anonymous transaction identifier — not your name, email, or payment details — which we use only to count monthly usage against your plan's allowance. Titles and subtitles are cached by the service so the same lookup isn't repeated; the cache contains content data, nothing about you.
Ads on the free tier
The free tier shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. Ad requests are non-personalized by design: CleanCut never requests tracking permission and does not use the advertising identifier. Google's handling of ad requests is subject to Google's privacy policy. Paid subscriptions remove ads.
Feedback you send us
"Report a Problem" composes an email in your own mail app — nothing is sent in the background. You can optionally attach a diagnostic file containing the last few minutes of playback messages your Apple TV sent; it includes the titles of what was playing, artwork and images are removed, and it contains no passwords or account data. The attachment is visible in the draft, and nothing leaves your device unless you send the email yourself.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles all payment information; CleanCut never receives or stores your payment details. Subscription status is read from your App Store entitlements on this device.
Data we collect
Nothing that identifies you. CleanCut has no user accounts and does not collect personal data for our own use. The only data our service stores is the anonymous, per-subscription usage count described above — plus any email you choose to send us.
This website
Website only. Nothing in this section applies to the CleanCut app, which continues to ship no analytics or tracking SDKs.
reclinedlogic.com uses Google Analytics to measure how many people visit and how many go on to the App Store, so we can tell whether advertising is worth paying for. It records pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, device and browser type, the site or ad that referred you, and clicks on our "Download on the App Store" buttons. We do not upload your name or email, we do not build an advertising profile of you, and none of it is connected to anything you do inside the app — the app sends us nothing to connect it to.
If you visit from the EU, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, analytics and advertising cookies are switched off by default and your visit is counted without them. Everywhere else, Google Analytics sets its own cookies; you can block them in your browser, or opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google's browser add-on. Google's use of this data is subject to Google's privacy policy.
When you tap a download button we add a campaign label to the App Store link so Apple can tell us, in aggregate, how many downloads an ad campaign produced. Apple reports a count, never who you are.
Children
CleanCut is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
